Growler Trend

By Joe Ruvel · January 27th, 2010 · 1 Comment

And right on cue stemming from the topic of the last post – the NY Times talks about the growing popularity of the Growler.

The laws must be a bit different on the west coast then on the east coast when it comes to who can fill a Growler and where. I don’t see nearly that many places doing it in SF. Some research needs to be done.

This topic comes up quite a bit on the BeerAdvocate forums.

In short, in California only breweries and brewpubs can fill growlers. Also, the container is supposed to be labeled with identifying information. So, for example, Russian River will only fill their growlers and you can’t get the RR growler filled by anyone else.
