Joe’s 30th Birthday

By Jasmine · March 18th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Happy Birthday, Joe! Last Sunday we piled 13 friends onto a ferry boat and shipped out to Larkspur to celebrate Joe’s birthday in true Beer at Joe’s style.

Party on Larkspur FerryFirst stop, Noonan’s Bar and Grill. It started out sort of…odd. An hour before, I called to see if we could sit outside and they said sure. But when we arrived, they said no, some of the chairs were falling apart and they only had one server anyways. Ok. Then they told us there were too many of us to have brunch. They would not be able to tell our egg dishes apart. Really? They can’t devise some method to work this out? So she said a few people could get brunch but not all. Service continued to be slow. I know we were a table of 13, but honestly there were only like 3 other tables of people in there.

Luckily this was all offset by their truly excellent food and beer. I started with Moylan’s Kilt Lifter, a Scottish style ale, which was amazing. I think this is becoming one of my new favorite styles. My friend Christy got the Pomegranate Wheat, which I actually loved and I don’t usually like fruit or flavored beers.

Noonan's Chicken PaillardThe food was delicious all around too. I had duck burgers – my favorite dish of the day – and Joe got their Chicken Paillard, which he claims to still be dreaming of.

After lunch, we hustled over to Marin Brewing Company, just one building over. Joe did a quick video of the Dipsea Tripel, a deliciously fruity but fairly light Belgian style ale. Although maybe he should have taken it BEFORE we finished four pitchers of Mt. Tam…

See, that’s why I usually take the videos.

Our time was cut short by ferry schedule constraints, but luckily they serve Lagunitas and Mirror Pond on the boat. Joe on the ferry homeEven better, Gordon Biersch is only a short walk away from the ferry building – not a bad way to end the night.

Thanks to everyone who made Joe’s birthday a blast!

I think you just can’t appreciate how far ahead of the curve he is in terms of cinematography. The shaky camera with bad angles is totally in now (Cloverfield, Diary of the Dead).

    Hey there Joseph!

Love your website and check it out frequently!

Happy 30th to my step-brother…Looks like you and your friends celebrated it in style!

Maybe I’ll switch from wine to beer one of these days! It’s tempting!

Have a great year and hopefully we’ll get to celebrate with you and Jasmine one of these days!

L’chaim! Love, Judy, Andrea, Daniel and Gregory
