East Coast Beer Update

By Joe Ruvel · December 29th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The last two holiday seasons we unfortuntly have not been able to travel to see family. We have had great times, but it is sad to see most of our friends run away back east. But, one good benefit is that they get to enjoy a bunch of east coast beers and then tell us all about it.

Here is the holiday east coast report from trusty beer reporters Jen and Dan:

Jen says

 1. (Purchased here – http://www.villagebeer.com/  A new, pretty awesome specialty beer and fancy food store in Buffalo.)  Long Trail Winter White (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/94/54085)  Super tasty, very drinkable.

2. (Purchased at Village Beer)  Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale (http://www.smuttynose.com/beers/the_smuttynose_big_beer_ser/farmhouse_ale.html)  Great Saison but not anything too special.

3. (Drank at Tom and Jerry’s in NYC.)  Brooklyn Winter Ale (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45/34069)  I really dug it because it tasted like a drinkable Scottish ale.  Dan was not a fan, as I remember he said it tasted like nothing.

Dan says:

I think i liked the smuttynose better, but both were pretty awesome.
The Brooklyn Winter had all the normal malty wintry goodness at first taste, but then just kind of tasted like nothing to me. Weird… I’ll stick with the 6 dollar lagers instead.

Joe Says:

6 dollar Brooklyn lager is insane – but oh my would I love to pay it – at least for a few nights.

Also, that Village beer store in Buffalo was amazing. The growler filling station (like the WF on the LES) is something that SF seriously lacks.

Deer Beer at Joe’s Can you investigate this? Is there some sort of weird law that prevents retailers from doing this in CA?

I expect a report on my desk by Monday. Oh, and enjoy your New Years.
