In the Beginning: SF Beer Week

By Jasmine · February 8th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Even the Christmas/Chanukah season does not generate as much anticipation as SF Beer week does in our household.

City Beer Store

First up, an opening ceremony tapping of the official SF Beer week ale, New Albion, at City Beer Store, which only Joe managed to make it to.

He really enjoyed the New Albion Ale, and said it was very drinkable – light with a nice malt side to it and had good flavor for a over 30 year old recipe. Before running out to the next event, he grabbed a quick taste of Pliny the Younger. Mmmmm…delicious.

Then, on to the Jug Shop, where I and two of our friends met up with him to taste the full lineup of Sierra Nevada beer. I’d had the Bigfoot before, but it was still my favorite of the night. I also enjoyed the Porter, and the Torpedo continues to be one of our new favorite beers. I find it infinitely more drinkable than their standard pale ale, which is far too bitter for me.

It was a pretty low-key event, with no big surprises. The Jug Shop has tastings every Friday night, though, and I’m looking forward to attending some of those. A great start to the festivities!

UP NEXT: Follow Joe to the East Bay for The Bistro’s Doube IPA Festival in Hayward!

I’m so jealous. So insanely jealous. Is Beer Week SF new? Why don’t I remember ever hearing about this before?

I’ll be there for Barleywine at Toronado’s for sure, but do you know if anything else interesting is happening over V-day weekend?
