SF Chef Food and Wine Schedule

By Joe Ruvel · August 6th, 2009 · 1 Comment

So many events – so little time. We will try to either live blog or at least keep everyone posted on all the beverage related events we go to  – but there might also be some that we can’t get to that would interest people. The full schedule is here. Below are some of particular interest to me.

10 a.m. sommelier secrets – Learn from those that are paid to know what wines go with what. I imagine this would take some of the intimidation out of the ordering wine process – Location: Farallon Restaurant

3:30 p.m. blind tasting with the masters Location – it is for wine but this can help with tasting of anything from beer to cheese to sake – these are skills that take time but once you have them, I imagine they can come in real handy. Location: Fifth Floor Restaurant & Lounge

10:30 a.m. PINOT ENVY – A run through a bunch of different Pinot Noir wines. I don’t know about you but I love Pinot. Location: The Westin St. Francis

10:30 a.m. AGAVE ACADEMY – Let Julio Bermejo, from Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant show you what Tequila can be. Location: Kuleto’s Restaurant

3:30 p.m. BAYSIDE BREWS – Join Jay Brooks and the SF Brewers Guild in what is sure to be a great session on local beer and the history that surrounds it. I am sad I probably won’t make this as I will be out in Hayward – but if you are in town and have a day pass this is the one to go to – Location: Kuleto’s Restaurant

THE URBAN BBQ  – Union Square – 6:00 – 10:00  – it isn’t cheap but damn did they back a lot into this BBQ. The food will be overflowing and the drinks – well the toughest thing will be deciding what to try. There are a bunch of vineyards, most of the good bars in SF will be there, and trumer will provide the beer. Hmm could have used a bit more beer for a BBQ but oh well – plenty of options.

10:30 a.m. BREW HA-HA – yeah another beer session – and this one I am going to. Bruce and Craig team up to bring an exciting (and early!) beer and food pairing session. Can’t wait. Location: Kuleto’s Restaurant

10 a.m. THE PERFECT PULL – can’t forget the coffee – and will probably be nice after a late night of drinking – Location: Hotel Monaco

3:30 p.m. KNOCK YOUR SAKES OFF – I am excited by this one – I have been out of the Sake loop for awhile – this should know me back in – Location: E&O Trading Co.

That is just a taste of the sessions – there are a lot of others especially for wine, cocktail, and food lovers.

And of course there are the grand tasting tents. The brew’s guild will have an area – so I am hoping for some new beers from the various SF breweries and brew pubs. Should be a great time.
